CONTROLLED TRIALS
Recovered bodies obey enough biology to examine and enough rules to punish anyone who confuses a measurement with an explanation.
Annex experiments are practical. Staff measure a specimen because the next operator may need to know what a twelve-gauge load interrupts, whether flood light changes its posture, or how long recovered tissue remains connected to a body no longer in the room.
The laboratory does not prove what these animals are. It separates repeatable field behavior from a good story told after surviving it.

Controlled Trials
Lighting, boundary, route, sound, tissue, and material trials begin with a useful question and a written stop condition. Specimens are examined externally whenever possible. Containment is never treated as proof of control.
An experiment fails when its measurement cannot be repeated. A different report is required when the same measurement repeats but the room, route, or custody record no longer permits the test to have occurred as written.

Custody Before Theory
Every sample receives a witness, seal, time, origin record, and physical transfer path. Equipment assembled across several decades is acceptable if calibration is current. A newer instrument is not trusted merely because its display is easier to read.
Origin claims remain provisional. Procedural notes remain useful: which lamp caused retreat, which fence crossing transferred pursuit, which carrier nest reduced the apex's effective radius.

Room Record / Administration
The material target is an unimpressive county office: painted steel, overfilled trays, hard institutional light, a desk polished by use, and filing cabinets expected to hold more years than the building was designed to survive.
