03 / A place worth believing

THE STATION

A maintained but fading workplace surrounded by wet road, black trees, and too much empty distance.

The store is small enough to understand: counter, two short aisles, refrigerator wall, office door, garage access, and rain-streaked windows looking onto the pumps.

Outside, the canopy and roadside sign create a little island of light. Beyond them, the highway and wooded horizon offer no reassurance at all.

The station is not abandoned. That is what makes being alone there matter.
A wet two-lane road disappears between trees beneath a line of weak lamps.

One Coherent Building

The storefront, garage, office, canopy, pumps, and road preserve their relationships across every view. Windows provide real sightlines. Doors lead somewhere. Work surfaces hold the objects required by the shift.

The player can build a mental map without consulting a map screen.

Recovered frames / Selected studies

A narrow refrigerator aisle reflects cold fluorescent light across clean tile.
The storefront, garage, and roadside sign remain readable through steady rain.

Light With a Job to Do

Cold canopy tubes, aging green store fluorescents, weak amber office bulbs, and dirty roadside light all come from visible practical fixtures.

Darkness remains readable. The goal is not to hide the environment, but to make the player aware of how little the light actually owns.

Location study / The honest station

The night never resolves cleanly.

Environment study / Practical canopy light and a functioning forecourt.

The fuel canopy and storefront remain brightly maintained against the wet night.

Familiarity gives every later displacement a measurable cost.
